Michelle’s Gift Guide for the Design-Minded (2023 Edition)
Some people find holiday shopping a chore, but not me. This time of year, I love the opportunity to present someone I care about with an item I picked out just for them.
I rely on some of the same skills for gift shopping as when I’m designing for a client–I listen to their wants and needs, take note of what brings them joy, and pay attention to their dislikes.
I also approach either task with the same belief that everyone deserves beautiful form and practical function in their homes and lives. The best designs, and the best gifts, incorporate both.
Here I’ve assembled a collection of gifts that caught my eye for a range of recipients, whether you are shopping for a homebody or frequent flier. Most are available online, but if you prefer to pick out gifts in person, I also wrap up the guide with a handful of recommendations for in-person shopping in New York.

18 Macarons Gift Box, Laduree Paris - When in doubt about what to gift, I always turn to Laduree Macarons. As pretty as they are delicious, it’s the perfect choice for anyone with even the slightest sweet tooth. (Or for someone who seems to have everything else already!)
